Hiatus Over

Quarantine’s about to end in 10 days time but I decided to give this a try again just so I can save myself from Boredom. I’ll just start with anything goes that pops into my head.

I’ll be having album reviews of NCT’s album releases this year as well as reviews of the other songs released this year in KPOP. Purely, the intention for these posts is for myself.

After Jonghyun’s passing away last December 2017, SMEnt decided to release Jonghyun’s last album posthumously. I only knew about it a day later so I was really emotional upon reading the news. SHINee is the very first group whose career I was able to follow from their debut. Up until now, I am still devastated with what happened to Jonghyun. I know he’s in a better place and nothing can hurt him anymore but I do miss him a lot. The fact that we won’t see him perform live again is something that I try to forget.

Back to the album, Poet|Artist is Jonghyun’s last album that he worked hard on for his fans. The proceeds from the album will go to Jonghyun’s mother and will be used to help others. Here’s the tracklist for this album:

  1. 빛이 나 (Shinin’)
  2. 환상통 (Only One You Need)
  3. 와플 ()
  4. 기름때 (Grease)
  5. Take The Dive
  6. 사람 구경 중 (Sightseeing)
  7. Rewind
  8. 하루만이라도 (Just for a day) – One of my faves
  9. 어떤 기분이 들까 (I’m So Curious)
  10. Sentimental
  11. 우린 봄이 오기 전에 (Before Our Spring) – Absolutely heartbreaking

Shinin’ is the title track for this album. In the music video, Jonhyun is all smiles. The track has this upbeat tempo and RnB vibe to it. I like it a lot, especially the hook Always be with you – which kinda hurt but is reassuring as well.

SMEnt also realeased a music video for Before Our Spring. They collated video snippets of Jonghyun’s happy moments with SHINee all throughout his career and of his solo concerts. This song is an absolute fave but also quite heartbreaking. Jonghyun’s poetry really shines in this one. His voice is calming and for anyone who’s distraught, this one will make you feel calm and at peace.

This post is hard for me but I have to pay tribute to him. I don’t want to forget him. I’m so grateful that he shared his artistry and talent with us. Truly, as I was listening to every track from the album, he outdid himself in every aspect – composing, arranging, vocals, just everything. You did well, Jonghyun. You did well.

If anyone who’s reading this needs someone to talk to them or listen to them, my blog is open to you. Let’s honor Jonghyun’s life by trying to help each other out.
